The internet is a vast stretch, brimming with information and connectivity. However, beyond the surface web, known as World Wide Web(WWW) that we commonly interact with lies a hidden realm known as the dark web.

Often shrouded in mystery, deception, secrecy and misconception, the dark web is a complex and multifaceted digital landscape that demands a closer examination.

The Surface Web | Deep Web and the Dark Web

Surface Web:
The Surface Web, also known as the Visible Web, is the part of the internet that is readily accessible through traditional search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. These search engines index and catalog web pages, making them easily discoverable. Its content is public and intended for widespread consumption. It includes websites, blogs, news articles, social media platforms, e-commerce sites, and more. This is where most internet users spend the majority of their time.

Deep Web:
The Deep Web refers to web content that is not indexed by traditional search engines. It is not easily discoverable through standard web searches. Access to the Deep Web typically requires specific login credentials, a direct URL, or access to a restricted network.
The Deep Web contains a vast array of content, including private databases, medical records, subscription-based services, email accounts, academic databases, legal docs, online banking, and confidential corporate intranets. This content is not publicly accessible but is essential for various legitimate purposes.

Understanding the Dark Web

The dark web is a subset of the deep web, which includes all parts of the internet that are not indexed by search engines, such as private databases and password-protected websites. It is excluded from the normal Web.

A part of the internet that is not indexed by traditional search engines, like Google Search, Bing and others. It requires specific software, such as Tor (The Onion Router), to access the dark web.

Its uniqueness depends on its reliance on specialized software like Tor (The Onion Router), which provides anonymity and encrypts user data as it passes through a network of nodes. You might want to have a quick thought of similarity in blockchain technology using a network of nodes, but let's not delve deeper.
In Dark Web, this layered encryption, often referred to as “onion routing,” renders tracing nearly impossible. Hackers dwell in such an environment to carry out their activities without leaving a trace.

It’s important to note that the dark web is not inherently illegal, but its lack of proper management and anonymity has made it a platform for various illegal and unethical activities.
